Kia Connect FAQ Kia Connect Store FAQ Safety Score FAQ
  • General Questions.

What is a Driving Safety Score?

A Driving Safety Score provides insights into your driving behavior by evaluating various factors, such as how your vehicle is driven. Higher scores indicate safer driving habits. Regularly checking your Driving Safety Score can help you identify areas for improvement.

Where can I view my Driving Safety Score?

Eligible vehicles will receive a Driving Safety Score, which can be accessed in the Kia app.

Do all vehicles offer a Driving Safety Score?

No, to receive a Driving Safety Score, your vehicle must be enrolled in the program and eligible for a Driving Safety Score. Note that it may take several days to generate the score, assuming daily driving.

How is my Driving Safety Score calculated?

The Driving Safety Score is determined by a proprietary algorithm that considers speed, braking, acceleration, and overall driving behavior. This algorithm assesses safe driving practices and mileage to assign a score.

Is my driving data being shared?

With your consent upon enrollment, your anonymized driving data is shared with our scoring partner, LexisNexis. LexisNexis evaluates driving events and assigns a score, which is then linked to your account. This data is not shared with other businesses unless authorized by you, such as for usage-based insurance programs.

    Who is LexisNexis?

LexisNexis is a third-party partner providing services to the insurance industry by calculating and delivering Driving Safety Scores and behavioral analytics. More information can be found on their Telematics | LexisNexis Risk Solutions page.

What information is being shared with LexisNexis?

An anonymized identifier links the driving data to your account. Shared data includes time of day, vehicle speed, braking events, and acceleration events, all safeguarded with security protocols.

    What is ‘Average Trip Speed’?

Average trip speed is calculated from recorded speeds over a period. High average trip speeds can negatively impact your overall score.

    What is ‘Hard Braking Events’?

Hard braking is linked to higher accident risks. Anticipating road conditions like slowing traffic and road obstructions helps reduce the need for hard braking, lowering the risk of accidents.

    What is ‘Highway Speeding Events’?

Highway speeding events are based on exceeding maximum speed limits. Adhering to speed limits reduces accident risks. Speeds over 80MPH/128.747KMH will negatively impact your score.

What is ‘Time of Day Driving’?

Driving in the morning on weekends is safer and associated with lower accident risks. Evening, night, and early morning driving have higher risks. Always drive at safe speeds and remain vigilant.

When are new scores and driving events available?

Driving Safety Scores and events are calculated daily.

Who is the driving score assigned to?

The driving score is assigned to the eligible vehicle enrolled in the program.

Why can’t I see my driving score in my vehicle owner’s portal account/mobile app?

Ensure your vehicle is enrolled and eligible. It may take several days for the Driving Safety Score to appear. If you're unable to see your Driving Safety Score, it could be due to one of the following reasons.

    • Your vehicle Model and Model Year are not included in the program.

    • There is not enough driving data to generate a score. Once you enroll in the program, up to ‘n’ days of driving data are needed to generate a score.

    • Technical issues: In rare cases, technical problems might prevent your score from being displayed.

Can I contact the support team if I have questions about my driving score or other issues?

Yes, you can reach out to the support team for any inquiries regarding your driving score or other related issues.
